Gloucester is a city and a district of Gloucestershire, of which it is the county town. The city lies on the River Severn, close to the Welsh border, between the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean. It was founded by the Romans in the first century, and was known as Colonia Glevum Nervensis. Economically, Gloucester is dominated by the service industry and has a strong financial and business sector.

Gloucester Cathedral is a very recognisable building within the city, especially for fans of the Harry Potter film series. There are other beautiful historic churches within the city, along with various half-timbered buildings dating from Tudor times.
